Een aardbeving van 8,7 bij het Russische Kamtsjatka heeft geleid tot tsunamiwaarschuwingen in onder meer Rusland, Japan, Hawaï en Ecuador, terwijl een tsunami delen van de Russische havenplaats Severo-Koerilsk overspoelde. Tegelijkertijd evacueerde China ruim 280.000 mensen vanwege tropische storm Co-May nabij Shanghai.
