Ivoorkust kan het WK 2010 alleen theoretisch nog missen. De ploeg versloeg directe concurrent Burkina Faso met maar liefst 5-0 en heeft officieel nog één punt nodig.
Ivoorkust staat na vier wedstrijden op twaalf punten, zes meer dan Burkina Faso. Op doelsaldo zou Burkina Faso de Ivorianen nog kunnen achterhalen, maar de kans daarop is bijzonder klein. Volgende maand, op bezoek bij Malawi, heeft Ivoorkust aan één puntje voldoende om deelname aan het WK definitief veilig te stellen.Bij Ivoorkust bleef Sekou Cissé op de reservebank.
