Excelsior is maandagavond onderuit gegaan tegen Helmond Sport. Op bezoek in Helmond was de thuisploeg met 3-1 te sterk. Na twintig minuten spelen opende Johan Voskamp, ex speler van de Kralingse club, de score. Tien minuten later kreeg Bandjar zijn tweede gele kaart waardoor Excelsior met tien man kwam te staan. Vlak voor rust wist Michal Janota nog gelijk te maken, maar in de tweede helft bepaalden Veldmate en opnieuw Voskamp de eindstand.
