Er komt een derde Europees toernooi voor clubteams, naast de Champions League en de Europa League. Daarover heeft de UEFA een akkoord bereikt, zo meldt FOX Sports. Het nieuwe toernooi gaat vanaf seizoen 2021/22 van start.
Het toernooi zal de 'Europa League 2' gaan heten. Er doen 32 clubs mee; het aantal deelnemers aan de Europa League wordt ook teruggebracht tot 32. De wedstrijden in het nieuwe toernooi zullen op donderdag gespeeld worden. De precieze invulling van het toernooi zal later bekend gemaakt worden.
