Door de winst van de KNVB beker heeft Feyenoord zich ook geplaatst voor de Johan Cruijff Schaal. Feyenoord opent seizoen 2016/2017 met de strijd tegen de landskampioen, die dit jaar al op 31 juli op het programma staat. Feyenoord is als bekerwinnaar formeel de thuisspelende ploeg in de Arena tegen de landskampioen, Ajax of PSV dus.
