Joris Mathijsen (34) keert volgend jaar niet terug in het shirt van zijn jeugdliefde Willem II. De verdediger, die beschikt over een aflopende verbintenis in De Kuip, denkt nog niet aan stoppen, maar dat is of bij Feyenoord of in het buitenland.
"Ik keer niet meer terug naar Tilburg als voetballer. Ik ga misschien nog wel lekker als fan op de tribune zitten bij Willem II. Maar meer ook niet", aldus Mathijsen tegenover Omroep Brabant. "Of ik blijf bij Feyenoord, of ik ga naar het buitenland. En dat buitenland kan van alles zijn, dus misschien zelfs wel Qatar. Het is wel zeker dat ik nog een jaar doorga."
