„Een grootschalige vechtpartij (op de kermis) is eigenlijk gewoon een ontaard feest. De deelnemers aan zo’n matpartij zien het in beginsel niet als iets slechts.” Dat zei cultuurhistoricus Gerard Rooijakkers in een artikel in het Brabants Dagblad over de recente knokpartijen op kermissen.
