PSV wilde via winst op Telstar met twaalf punten uit vier duels de komende interlandperiode in, had twee aanwinsten binnen en zag Ajax in Volendam stuntelen. Maar wat niemand had verwacht, was dat PSV het nog veel slechter kon doen en fikse schade zou oplopen.
